How ballet can benefit your child.

As a parent, you may be debating which activity is best for your child.  With so many to choose from – sports, swimming, skating, scouts, gymnastics, musical theater and dance, just to name a few – it’s a difficult decision.  Here are four reasons you should consider enrolling your child in ballet.

Physical Benefits

There are few forms of exercise that offer greater health benefits than ballet.  Ballet tones the body, builds long, lean muscles, promotes flexibility and agility, and teaches body awareness and good posture.  Ballet helps the student develop co-ordination, balance and a strong core.  Ballet also improves fine and gross motor skills, and helps motivate children to stay active as they grow into adulthood.  And a good ballet class releases pent-up energy and gets the endorphins flowing!

Academic Benefits

Memory training is an important by-product of ballet practice, but far from its only academic benefit.  Our students develop skills associated with academic success including self-discipline, self-confidence and the ability to follow instructions, concentrate and collaborate.

Artistic Benefits

Ballet inspires young dancers through beautiful movement and classical ballet technique.  It helps them learn about music and rhythm, and it creates an outlet for their inner creativity.

Social and Emotional Benefits

Our students learn so much at the studio that they carry into their lives outside the studio.  They learn poise, teamwork and respect for their teachers and fellow dancers.  They learn to share the dance floor and to execute combinations together as a class.  They become comfortable performing in front of others.  They form friendships and develop pride in themselves and in their classmates.  They master new skills, which builds confidence and makes them eager to master the next skill.
